    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Illegal dumping involves the disposal of waste and other unwanted material in non-designated spaces, including but not limited to landfill perimeters, public roads, public property, vacant lots, public litter bins, and remote terrain (Municipality of Dysart, 2021).<br />
In the Municipality of Dysart et al, anecdotal records have established that roads with low foot/vehicular traffic and visibility, as well as the peripheral area of local waste disposal sites are among the most common dumping grounds within the boundaries of the municipality (Municipality of Dysart, 2021). <br />
To mitigate the health, environmental, financial, and reputational risks associated with illegal dumping, Dysart et al developed the By-law 2021-29 to Govern the Management of Waste, which came into force and effect on May 1, 2021, replacing the previous by-law from 2006.<br />
In order to supplement the efficacy of the new by-law, this paper will examine the risks and behaviours associated with illegal dumping, as well as provide promotion and education methods drawn from best practices enacted by other municipalities.<br />
Approximately 320 hours of time was dedicated to the research and development of this paper. If Dysart had engaged consultants to conduct similar work, at $29 per hour, this project would have cost the municipality $9,280.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[This document explores various methods and their implications for parking lot design, exploring a combination of new techniques, technology, and up to-date methods that are all functional, self-sustainable, environmentally friendly, and affordable. The study was based on Haliburton Forest and Wild Life Reserve parking lot located at 1095 Redkenn Road, Haliburton, Ontario,Canada. The purpose of this study was to research strategies and methods to achieve a ‘green’ parking lot design and entrance space in rural areas. The main designs and methods researched were rain gardens, drainage, and bioretention; other ideas such as signage will also be explored, and a supporting case study will be referenced.]]></dcterms:abstract>

    <dcterms:title><![CDATA[Protecting the Dark Skies: Night Lighting for Kennisis Lake]]></dcterms:title>
    <dcterms:subject><![CDATA[Effects of light pollution]]></dcterms:subject>
    <dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Light pollution is a growing concern for rural areas, and the preservation of the night sky has become a popular issue among ecologists and enthusiasts alike. The full impact of light pollution on human and ecological health has yet to be uncovered, however initial findings are distressing at the very least. The issue is gaining momentum in the political arena, mostly due to pressures and lobbying from concerned environmental groups and organizations. While the reduction of light pollution in urban areas is of primary focus in the literature to date, special attention must be paid to rural areas where the natural world is in much closer proximity to light sources, and are therefore more susceptible to its effects. This report seeks to define light pollution and the effects it has on the natural environment, and suggest ways to minimize or eliminate these effects. Recommendations for Kennisis Lake include suggestions for voluntary action and bi-law changes.]]></dcterms:abstract>
