Abstract
A summary of the resource.
The purpose of this project is to perform a policy scan to review, analyze and report on current municipal policies within the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge district in order to identify policy gaps and opportunities regarding climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as provide recommendations on how to address these issues.Throughout this policy scan, it was found that many municipalities have made mentions of climate change and its impacts on the environment. However more focus can be put on the connection between climate change and human health because climate change is a pressing threat to human health and may be addressed through municipal policies.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
According to Environment Canada (2006) in 2000, GHG emissions from Canada’s waste sector totaled 24 megatons of carbon dioxide, representing about 3% of Canada's total emissions in 2000. The primary source of these emissions is from solid waste disposal on land, which contributes 93% of the total sector emissions; much smaller contributions come from wastewater handling and waste incineration (6% and 1%, respectively). This project is in response to a request by Environment Haliburton to study Greenhouse Gas reduction strategies in Haliburton County, by reviewing current waste management techniques and providing solutions for future waste management strategies. These possible techniques and strategies examined include: bag limits, clear garbage bags, increasing diversion rates, education programs, and various scales of composting. The report also includes information on external funding sources that could be used to advance programs in these areas.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
This research project examines Public Attitudes on Climate Change and Greenhouse Gases in Haliburton County. In order to ensure the establishment of much needed local initiatives, it is important to make certain the public within the community is well informed on the issue of climate change and its relationship with greenhouse gases. For Haliburton County to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the major cause of climate change, the municipality requires a knowledge base of public attitudes toward both climate change and potential mitigative measures. This study is aimed at acquiring the appropriate information to help Haliburton County achieve a greater level of sustainability for present and future generations.

Description
An account of the resource
An environmental impact assessment of the proposal to use an existing dam in the village of Haliburton to develop a micro-hyrdro project.
Abstract
A summary of the resource.
This report reviews the proposal by Emmerson Lumber Ltd for the development of a micro-hydro dam on the Drag River. There has been extensive use of the site since settlement of the town of Haliburton, with he earliest known dam in 1864. These dams have interrupted the river flow and altered the landscape downstream. Current human impacts on the ecology of the site include light and noise from the town, which can be harmful on fish and wildlife.

The proposed hydropower development would be run-of-the-river, resulting in much less environmental impact in comparison to other hydropower developments. This report lists the numerous approvals required from the MNRF, DFO, MOE, and the Municipality following acts such as the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Navigable Waters Protection Act, Fisheries Act, etc.

Based on successes from other Micro-hydro dam projects, it is recommended that public participation in key to process, without proper consultations the environmental assessment is not effective.

Description
An account of the resource
Determine the financial viability and potential sources of funds to purchase and install a micro hydro generating station on an existing, privately owned dam. Power generated will be used to meet the energy needs of a local lumber supply and retail store.
Abstract
A summary of the resource.
The purpose of this report is to determine the financial viability for potential sources of funding and/or incentives programs for the purchase, construction, and installation of a micro hydro installation in Ontario, put together for Emmerson Lumber Limited in Haliburton. A directory and description of any funding/incentives are provided for the Government of Canada and the province of Ontario. Funding is divided into three categories, direct funding, tax incentives, non-tax incentives, and their relevance to Emmerson Lumber. Financial viability of a micro hydro generator appears to be more financially viable and promising now, more than ever. There is also great potential for more financial programs to be unveiled in the future.
